I don't think I could even come close to saying this better myself:

"I have absolutely nothing to hide, and would readily comply with a legally obtained search and seizure warrant; however, under no circumstances do I condone the arbitrary suspension of the rights and freedoms so adamantly insisted upon by our Founding Fathers.

The concept that, if you have nothing to hide or nothing to be ashamed of, you should willingly give up your Constitutionally protected rights and submit to the arbitrary, unlawful interference by your government in your personal life is a dangerous, groundless proposition propagated by the enemies of fee men everywhere.

The authors of the Bill of Rights did not provide for exceptions or biased interpretation of their forcefully stated insistence that Congress shall make no law curtailing the freedom of speech (etc.) No man, no court, no legislative body should arbitrarily create exceptions.

The Constitution does NOT say that Congress shall make no law restricting our civil rights, "unless or until the Chief Executive gets an urge to aggrandize his powers"; it does not permit the dissolution of those precious rights "if our great Republic should come under attack by Muslim extremists or lovesick starlet stalkers who decide to shoot the President in order to gain the attention of the object of his demented obsessions"; nor does it provide for the abrogation of those rights if the Attorney General feels the only weapons at his disposal to combat enemy forces within include setting aside pesky, bothersome civil rights.

And most of all, the framers of that precious document (the last citadel against tyranny) did not intend that it should be the sole discretion of the Chief Executive whether or not the citizens of this nation should enjoy the protection of government by law. Threats to national security and national sovereignty are not emboldened by the fears of some that our Constitutionally protected Human Rights provide safe havens for insurgents.

To the contrary, it was with brilliant insight that men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Ben Franklin, and so many other men of courage and integrity realized that the fabric of our society is strengthened by the inviolability of those rights. To paraphrase Franklin and others: they who believe that it is worth forfeiting some of our rights in order to secure some degree of safety will lose both rights and safety.

Most telling perhaps, is that a solemn oath was prescribed whereby elected officials swear to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. He who would author even the tiniest infringement of our Constitutional Rights, or support such infringement by vote or judicial decision, is, in my considered opinion, guilty of high treason and perjury. The PATRIOT Act, for example, on its face is illegal and anyone who voted its enactment has forsworn a sacred oath. No amount of rhetoric or obscure reasoning and justification can paint a different face on the deliberate suspension of unalienable rights. Having witnessed history since 1941, I am utterly flabbergasted that, as a nation, such a debate is even remotely entertained by honest, reasonable, patriotic men. "

And to add an afterthought:

FUCK THE NSA IN ITS EAR. BOMB BOMB BOMB. TERRORIST (TERR-ist for bush supporters that seem confused by the entire word) TERRORIST TERRORIST BOMB BOMB BIN LADEN BOMB BOMB.

Hi NSA, welcome to my journal. Eat a dick and die.

Aggressive, but with the brains to back it up: You are a Spellsword!

Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken
after you’ve fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you're
an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't.

Spellswords combine arcane might with combat know-how. They're
much tougher than mages, like to wear armor, and can cast spells
through their weapons. They're very, very, good at doing lots of damage
to a single target very quickly, and while not quite as tough as most
fighters, are still pretty hard to kill.

You're both smart and aggressive, which means that you're probably
pretty dangerous when pissed off. You also tend to be somewhat
straightforward, which is nice, and don’t have much use for
spirituality or mysticism.

Usually, I can drink and nothing whatsoever happens because of the size of my system, but apparently I found the line last night.
I ended up being pulled into an "emerging leaders" training session thing at work. It was actually pretty fun and informational and managed to actually take my mind off of recent things...

We had to do several questionnaires, one of which was called "PeopleMap" which breaks you down into two of four personality types: Leader, Task, People, or Free-Spirit.

Here's a link that I managed to find online describing the 4 types pretty well

My score was pretty heavily weighted to be heavy on Leader-Free Spirit, and way down at the other end were People, and then Task... with People 1 point ahead of Task. Supposedly that means that I'm a leader that likes challenges and is particularly adept at seeing the big picture and 'rolling with the punches'. It typically also means that I'm pretty open to multiple approaches as long as the end goal is correct. I would say that's pretty on for the most part.

The other test that we did was a Myers-Briggs, which is a pretty common test from what I've heard. I think I've done one of these in the past. Anyway, my result ended up with me being an INTJ, which I think is pretty dead on in terms of my personality. That link is almost the exact text of the sheet that I got, and included the same list of "Famous INTJs". The one that made me smirk was "Mr Darcy" from Pride and Prejudice, which reminded me of something else...

Since it doesn't matter now, I might as well say what the "surprise" was going to be. It honestly wasn't going to be a kitten, what I meant by unique and particularly personal was essentially that I had gone out of my way to take the time to memorize a few particular lines...

In declaring myself thus I am fully aware that I will be expressively going against the wishes of my family, my friends, and I hardly need add my own better judgment. The relative situations of our families is such that any alliance between us must be regarded as a highly reprehensible connection.

You get the point.

Well, I've had to put myself on a temporary moratorium for a few months in terms of buying DVDs, since I ended up bringing home two purchases today, in the form of Kill Bill Vol. 1, and the Band of Brothers miniseries... for a total of like $115 :P Not much for some people, but for a po' college student like me, a fortune. Add to that the purchase of the FIfth Element and Stargate the other day for $10 each, and I've more than broken my budget for them for a while, at least until I start working. This brings my collection up to:

Kill Bill Vol. 1
Fifth Element
Stargate
Clerks
Mallrats
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Suicide Kings
The Pianist
Gladiator
American History X
Boondock Saints
The Usual Suspects
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Snatch
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
The Shawshank Redemption
Training Day
Traffic
Fight Club
Punch Drunk Love
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Basic
Memento
O Brother Where Art Thou
LA Confidential
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Matrix
Matrix Reloaded
Matrix Revolutions
Star Wars 1: Phantom Menace
Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones
American Beauty
Mission Impossible
Mission Impossible 2
Blues Brothers
Willy Wonka
Kelly's Heroes
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
Planet of the Apes
Tomb Raider
Face/Off
Braveheart
The Sixth Sense
Galaxy Quest
Ferris Beuller's Day Off
The Royal Tenenbaums
Unbreakable
A Beautiful Mind
Road to Perdition
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Men in Black
Men in Black II
Canadian Bacon
My Cousin Vinny
Animal House
Spaceballs
Blazing Saddles
Barbershop
Undercover Brother
The Score
Cats and Dogs
Shrek
Dr. Strangelove
The Replacements
South Park : Bigger Longer and Uncut
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek First Contact
Star Trek Insurrection
Star Trek Nemesis
Equilibrium
Pirates of the Caribbean
Saving Private Ryan
Monty Python's Meaning of Life
Xmen
Xmen 2
Tears of the Sun
1941

TV Shows:
Band of Brothers
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Futurama - Season 1
Futurama - Season 2
Futurama - Season 3
Family Guy - Volume 1
Family Guy - Volume 2
Upright Citizen's Brigade

Movie Collections:
Dolemite/Rudy Ray Moore
Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones

I remember being told before that "If you're not liberal when you're young, you don't have a heart; If you're not conservative when you're old, you're a fool." I don't know about the latter part as I'm far from old, but the trend so far with me seems to be that as I get older, I'm getiting more liberal. I mostly attribute it to the fact that when I was younger, I was obviously more idealistic and inexperienced with the world. It's not hard to want things to be ideal and to have every single aspect of everything treated equivalently when you don't know how things "actually work." I won't ever entirely dismiss conservative ideas (save religious censorship ones), as yes, given an ideal society, you can treat everyone as an exact equivalent as they'd have started perfectly equal, and everyone could work fairly for everything they have. Of course, none of the people in positions of power would be so greedy as to defraud their fellow man, and would probably do things for the common good.

As all of this is obviously not the case, I find it hard to not be more and still maintain a heart :P.

This probably seems like somewhat of a random jut into this topic, particularly considering the general lack of posts before this :P however, many of the idiot superreligious conservatives here have driven me into absolute fits of confusion. As though this school as a whole was not conservative enough, there is a group on campus called "YCT" - The Young Conservatives of Texas. These idiots love to have "protests" depending on whatever minority group is celebrating some sort of (for once) positive aspect of their lives. Examples of this in the past have included a protest against Affirmative Action during Black History Month - nevermind the fact that there are so few black students here that I don't know how they could even ASSUME that this school confirms to affirmative action. Further, their bright idea for this was to have a bake sale - where they only have a select number of cookies that they'll sell to white people (who also pay more) while they have a lot more cookies for "other races". I personally enjoyed pointing out to them that what they were actually protesting race-based scholarships and quotas and NOT affirmative action, but it's pointless to argue with these idiots ;)

Anyway, to continue the "it's pointless to argue with these idiots" thread. Recently, the GLBTA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Alliance) here at Texas A&M celebrated Gay Pride Week, and in response, the YCTs decided to have "Heterosexual Pride Week". Now, while admittedly, this is a dumb idea in and of its own, yes, there is nothing specifically wrong with the idea. However, while they claim that their goal is "promoting Heterosexual pride" rather than trying to oppress homosexuals, this seems incredibly laughable, especially when you have a bunch of neo-nazi looking guys with shaved-heads standing around holding up signs that state "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." and "Heterosexuals: Promoting Life on this Planet since its Creation." Of course, none of them would remotely listen to arguments in passing, especially any comments about the Adam & Steve poster- Them: "What do you mean that by saying this it means that we're stating that Homosexuality is wrong? No, we're just promoting heterosexual pride"

I swear... people here are so frustrating sometimes. It's great dating a wonderful girl that's not a Jesus-freak? :P

I mean, it was pretty good, but I find it hard to praise it as much as some have (Ebert and Roper called it one of the best films of the year (2002)). It was averagely directed. The message of the film was wonderful, but I find it hard to praise a film simply for a message, unless it's something entirely unique.

It seemed to me as though the praise was directed at the message of the movie rather than the application of the actual film.
